Dear OLLU Community,
Since June 2013, the Sueltenfuss Library has subscribed to EasyBib, providing to faculty, staff, and students both instruction and assistance in using this citation software. However, the library’s ability to provide easy, reliable access to this citation tool changes on May 2nd, when Chegg Inc., a company specializing in online textbooks, homework help, online tutoring, scholarships and internship matching, acquired Imagine Easy Solutions, the owner of EasyBib citation software. On June 8th, Chegg, Inc. announced that EasyBib would no longer be available to institutions on a subscription basis, but rather as a free, advertisement driven service. As a result, Chegg terminated the Sueltenfuss Library’s subscription to EasyBib on June 30th.
What this means for you.
If you have an EasyBib account, you will still be able to access your projects until August 15th by accessing your account either on campus or by using the EasyBib links located on the library’s webpages.
Beginning August 6th, you can upgrade your account to the new EasyBib service, EasyBib EDU, free of charge with a coupon code. Once the Sueltenfuss Library receives the coupon code from EasyBib, an announcement will be made detailing how you can request the code. While the Sueltenfuss Library will gladly provide you with the coupon code, the library staff will be unable to provide technical support for EasyBib.
If you choose to use the free version of EasyBib without upgrading or create an account without the coupon code, you will only have access to the MLA citation style. All other citations styles and EasyBib services will require a paid upgrade.
Currently, EasyBib does not allow the direct transfer of your projects to other citation software. However, you do have the option of printing, saving or emailing a list of your EasyBib citations. As a precaution, the library recommends you save a copy of your EasyBib citations by August 1, 2016.
If you have any questions about EasyBib, please contact: Steven Wise, Associate Professor and Research Librarian at swise@ollusa.edu or 210-431-4118.
Thank you.
