Scholarship opportunity for current MSW students.
The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health is accepting applications for a scholarship program that awards
$5,000 to graduate students who are committed to providing mental health services after graduation. The
Ima Hogg Scholarships reflect the foundation’s commitment to address the need for more trained social
workers providing quality mental health services to the people of Texas.
Every Texas-based graduate school of social work, accredited or pending accreditation by the Council
on Social Work Education, is invited to recommend one student to receive an Ima Hogg Scholarship.
The foundation awards only one scholarship per university per year.
Guidelines for eligibility include
that nominated students must:
• Be pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) and plan on providing quality mental
health services to the people in Texas.
• Be recommended for the scholarship by the dean or director (or approved designee) of the
graduate social work program.
• Have completed (or be about to complete) their first year of graduate studies in social work and
be prepared to enter their second year in the program in the fall of 2024. Students admitted to a
one-year advanced standing program beginning the fall of 2023 are eligible (graduation May
2024).
• Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in providing mental health services to
underserved or underrepresented individuals and their communities in Texas upon obtaining
their master’s degree.
• Self-identify the need or financial hardship for the award and if awarded, how this award will
provide fiscal relief and lessen the financial burden faced by the student.
To apply, submit the following to the Worden Department (WordenEvents@ollusa.edu) by Sunday,
3/17/24. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
• Ensure you meet all requirements listed above;
• Submit: Resume;
• Submit: A personal statement- 500 word maximum (include state of residency, student ID #,
program- advanced or foundation- and year of study). Students should address their career goals,
why they chose social work as a career, their experience to date (if any) in providing mental health
services, how the MSW credential will help them meet their career goals, the impact they hope to
achieve as a social worker, and how this scholarship, if awarded, will provide fiscal relief, and
lessen the financial burden faced by the student.
Worden will complete an initial screening of applicants. That list will go to the Worden Director to
recommend one student from the list and draft a letter of recommendation. Do not reach out for a
recommendation letter; that will only be drafted if you are the selected recipient. Due to the high volume
of applicants, only the selected recipient will be contacted by Friday, 3/29/24.
